Stress v/s Hair loss

Stress and Hair loss can be directly co-related to each other. It often seems that those that live in constant fear about losing their hair may actually contribute to their own hair loss, by giving themselves so much stress and anxiety that their hair may actually fall out.

Hair loss is still hair loss. If you have hair loss, you'll need to see a doctor or a hair specialist if you want to control it. But anxiety can lead to conditions that cause hair loss, and certainly make living with hair loss far more stressful.

The key issue between anxiety and hair loss is stress. Anxiety is, in many ways, long term and persistent stress and thus stress ultimately weakens your tresses.

Stress can cause many conditions that lead to hair loss. These include:

  • Alopecia Areata - Sudden loss of large clumps of hair in areas around your scalp.

  • Telogen Effluvium - This is a condition where more hairs than normal prepare to fall out.

  • Trichotillomania - This is a habitual condition caused by stress and anxiety where the person pulls out hairs without realizing it.
Stress  sometimes induces hair loss which is sometimes irreversible.Stress can lead to Telogen effluvium which is a medical condition leading to hair loss. Telogen effluvium is often responsible for large portions of hair loss, where the hair typically falls out in 'handfuls'. Up to 70% of scalp hair can be lost through this condition. Telogen effluvium doesn't actually cause hair loss, instead it causes the hair to stop growing. Stress can lead to a condition called Alopecia Areata . This causes the white blood cells to attack the hair follicles in the scalp, leading to a very instantaneous  hair loss. Hair often falls out in patches , but total hair loss can affect the whole scalp in the space of  a few weeks. Stress needs to be first managed to trigger hair loss.

Success Rate of Hair Transplant Surgery

Patients often ask about our hair transplant surgery success rate.  It’s an important question given that this procedure can be a significant emotional and financial investment. The success of a hair transplant is frequently judged by the appearance of the patient’s hair after the transplant has fully grown which normally takes a year.  The success of the procedure is best judged by the patient as trying to meet the patient’s expectations is the primary objective of the surgeon. In a non-smoker between 95-98% of the grafts will grow successfully provided the highest international standards of surgery are used in the transplant procedure. The key to a successful hair transplant procedure is twofold.

First is the number of hair follicles available for transplant and the viability of those hair follicles. The second is down to the skill and experience of the surgeon and how and where the hair grafts are placed. To maximize the hair transplant surgery success rate it is vital to have each hair follicle outside the body for as short a time as possible; this means they are less prone to drying out and/or infection. At cosmoworldclinics, we have a large team of skilled technicians working on the extraction and dissection of the hair follicles, which ensures a much higher yield of grafts for transplantation.

The success of the surgery is dependent on the levels of donor hair that can be extracted. The more a patient’s scalp has lost hair, the less there will be to transplant. Even though there might be insufficient donor hair to cover a less visible area such as the crown, the patient is usually satisfied because of their improved appearance.

How much hair shedding can be treated as normal ???

Shedding is a natural process that happens to everyone, but losing hair can be quite worrying.  Most people have about 100,000 hairs on their heads and lose around 100 to 125 hairs per day.  Alopecia, the medical term for normal hair loss, occurs because scalp hair grows in cycles. Each hair follicle undergoes a growth stage that lasts two or eight years, followed by a two-month resting stage where no growth occurs. Then, the hair strand falls out and a new one begins to grow in its place.

For a healthy person, this means between 80 and 90 percent of hair follicles are growing hair at one time, while the rest of the follicles are resting or shedding. Losing more than that? Something could be wrong. When the loss exceeds l25 hairs per day, it’s no longer just considered "shedding." It could be a condition called "telogen effluvium" when something pushes more hairs into the resting phase. Physical and emotional stress can contribute to excessive hair loss.  Other reasons include lifestyle upsets and changes in diet  Antidepressants, anti-acne prescriptions, and some forms of birth control can also temporarily disrupt hair’s growth cycle.
First off, try to stay calm, stressing over hair loss can frustratingly lead to more of it . Look out for the signs and consult a doctor .

MYTHS AND TRUTH ABOUT HAIR LOSS

#Hairloss is a common condition that can happen to anyone. But people believe in some myths and these myths lead to a lot of people believing that they can actually prevent their hair loss by using these techniques.
Some myths and truth behind hair loss that can be highlighted so that  we can help people understand more about hair loss and why it affects some people.

MYTH: Washing hair in cold water will prevent baldness
TRUTH: Washing your hair with cold water may increase blood circulation, but it will not prevent baldness
There are some benefits to washing your hair in cold water, such as frizz prevention and cuticle tightening. However, there are no direct associations between washing your hair in cold water and baldness prevention.
MYTH: Wearing a hat will cause baldness
TRUTH: Hair follicles don’t need to breathe as they get their oxygen from the blood
The only cause of baldness from hats is if you wear one that exerts excessive tension or friction on your head. Hair follicles don’t need to breathe on the exterior, meaning that you can wear a hat 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Hats will not cause hair loss.
MYTH:Regular brushing of the hair and scalp will prevent hair loss
TRUTH: Brushing will boost circulation but will not stop balding
In fact, brushing your hair too much may cause injury, which will lead to hair loss. Many assume that boosting blood circulation in your head will make balding hair re-grow. But, in fact, this is not true.
MYTH: Cutting your hair will not prevent hair loss
TRUTH: Your hair feels thicker after a haircut but it does not prevent hair loss
Your hair might feel lusciously thick after visiting a salon but that does not mean cutting it prevents hair loss. The hair follicles only appear that way simply because the hair shaft is thicker near the roots. Also shorter hair tends to have more lift which gives the impression of thickness and volume.
MYTH: Hair loss comes from the mother’s side
TRUTH: It is often genetic but comes from both parents
Many people believe that hair loss is passed down from the mother’s side. While the X chromosome (which you get from your mother) is  key gene for baldness, it is not the only genetic factor. Men who have bald fathers also have an increased chance of going bald. Baldness in general is usually genetically determined.

Essential vitamins and minerals for hair growth

ESSENTIAL VITAMINS

For healthy hair growth, it is necessary to have enough of vitamin C, B vitamins such as Biotin (also known as Vitamin B7 or Vitamin H) and Niacin (Vitamin B3). Foods such as sweet red peppers, guavas and dark green leafy kale contain very high amounts of Vitamin C. Foods such as the dark leafy green Swiss chard, carrots, and nuts including almonds and walnuts, are all naturally high in Vitamin B7. Niacin (Vitamin B3) is found in fish such as tuna and salmon, poultry (chicken and turkey), roasted peanuts and mushrooms. All of these vitamins – Vitamin C, Vitamin B7 (Biotin) and Vitamin B3 (Niacin) have been proven to help promote healthy hair growth and reduce hair loss.

ESSENTIAL MINERALS

Iron and Zinc are two minerals that promote healthy hair growth. Iron-rich foods are lean meats, spinach, chicken and beans or lentils. Iron is an essential mineral that has several important roles in the body including helping to make red blood cells, which carry oxygen around the body to all the cells. Hair loss can be one of the visible symptoms of anemia, or Iron deficiency. But even if you are not anemic, you may have low Iron levels that are affecting your health and may result in thinning hair. Seek medical advice if you believe you have low Iron levels. Foods naturally rich in Zinc include seafood, beef and lamb, wheat germ (toasted), spinach and pumpkin seeds. A diet rich in the minerals Iron and Zinc will help nourish hair from the inside out. If you do not have enough of the minerals in your diet to promote hair growth, consider taking dietary supplements for hair growth, including Iron, Zinc, Biotin, Niacin, Vitamin C and an exclusive marine complex derived from fish proteins.

How to choose right shampoo for your hair

There are so many shampoos on the market today, it can be confusing to decide what particular type and brand is best for your hair. The best way to distinguish what is and is not best for your hair, you first need to understand shampoo and the different varieties so that you can arrive at quick decision.

The main purpose of shampoo is to properly cleanse the hair and scalp. An effective shampoo will remove dirt, oils, and dead skin cells without negatively affecting the hair and scalp.
The hair and scalp needs to be shampooed regularly to fight the build up of oils, dirt, and natural flakes that can create an environment for disease producing bacteria. Regular shampooing will vary from person to person depending on the type of hair you have. Oily hair needs to be shampooed more often to control brittleness and breakage.
Excessive shampooing on both oily and dry hair can strip the hair of its natural protective oil that seals and protects the hair’s cuticle. If your hair is constantly dry, try shampooing it a little less frequent to see if that will help eliminate the problem.

Water Makes A Difference
Water is the most important and abundant element on earth. It is vital to sustaining life on the planet and plays a large part in aiding hair with bounce, body, and shine. So it has to be taken into consideration.
Soft water, which is best for shampooing, is rain water or chemically softened that contains small amounts of minerals. Hard water contains more minerals and reduce the ability of soap or shampoo to lather readily. It can also change the results of hair coloring. Hard water is found mostly where well water is used to supply the home.
Let's find out some of the types of shampoo available :-
Acid Balanced Shampoo – is a shampoo that is balanced to the pH of skin and hair. Shampoo can become acid balanced by adding citric, lactic, or phosphoric acid. An acid pH of 4.5 to 5.5 is essential to prevent excessive dryness and hair damage during the cleansing process. Acid-balanced shampoos help to close the hair cuticle and are recommended for hair that has been color treated or lightened.
Conditioning and Moisturizing Shampoo – are shampoos that are non-stripping and do not remove natural oils and artificial colors from the hair. The purpose of these shampoos are to make the hair smooth and shiny, improve hair manageability, and avoid damage to chemically treated hair. These conditioning agents restore moisture and elasticity, adds volume, and strengthens the hair shaft.
Medicated Shampoo – contain special ingredients, chemicals, or drugs that help combat certain scalp conditions such as dandruff, eczema, or psoriasis. Some medicated shampoos that fight the more severe scalp conditions must be prescribed by a doctor. These shampoos are quite strong, are very drying to the hair, and can effect the color of tinted or lightened hair. In most cases, the shampoo must rest on the scalp for a longer period of time than regular shampoo in order for the active ingredients to take effect.
Clarifying Shampoo – are shampoos that are acidic on the pH scale. They cut through product buildup that can flatten hair, and allow the hair to shine. This type of shampoo should be used once a week or once every 2 weeks.
Balancing Shampoo – is the most misused shampoo due to not understanding its use. Balancing shampoos are designed for oily hair and scalp and wash away excess oil in the hair. This shampoo is not ideal for dry and brittle hair.
Dry or Powder Shampoo – are shampoos that cleanse the hair without the use of water. This is ideal for the elderly and people where there is a challenge to use water on the hair due to some type of incapacity. The powder is applied throughout the hair and then brushed thoroughly where the product picks up dirt and oil leaving the hair clean and with more volume.
Color Enhancing Shampoo – are designed to brighten, add a slight hint of color, and eliminate unwanted color tones to the hair. Similar to temporary color rinses, they contain basic color pigments that are attracted to porous hair and revives color that has been removed with plain shampooing.
Volumizing Shampoo – gently cleanses hair without adding weight with heavy oils and conditioning agents. These shampoos provide body and fullness to fine, lifeless hair while improving strength, shine, and manageability.

Does bleach cause harm to your hairs ???

Bleaching and highlighting can cause damage to your hairs. Bleach and highlights remove color from your hair by the process of oxidation. Oxidation decolorizes the pigment in your hair shaft, which is why bleach will turn your hair almost white if it’s left on for too long. Very bleached hair often gains a yellow tint, because keratin (the protein your hair is made of) is naturally a pale yellow.  Hydrogen peroxide and ammonia are the most commonly used ones and are often mixed together, as used separately they’re unstable and very slow in lightening the hair.Of all coloring methods, bleach is potentially the most damaging, and therefore should ideally always be done professionally. Bleaching raises your hairs’ outer cuticle, allowing the bleaching agent to fully penetrate. However, repeated bleaching can permanently raise the cuticle scales and allow rapid and continuous loss of moisture.

 DAMAGE CAUSED BY BLEACHING

Damage from bleach includes dry, brittle, inelastic hair, and hair  that is more prone to breakage and split ends. Bleached hair is also more porous and swollen and therefore more vulnerable to other chemical and non-chemical processes. These include everything from permanent wave solutions in curling or straightening to regular heated styling with blow-dryers.

Bleaches can cause burns to your scalp (or any tissue that it comes in contact with). If you experience any sort of discomfort during processing, you must let your stylist know straight away. The best way to combat dryness, brittleness and breakage is to use a pre-shampoo deep conditioning treatment three days before and also after bleaching or highlighting, and then weekly thereafter. This plumps your hair with moisture, making it more elastic and less likely to snap. The correct pre-shampoo treatments also add shine, manageability and bounce.

Use a daily damage defence product to keep your hair hydrated, shiny and protected from daily environmental damage. Products like these also help to seal gaps caused by a raised cuticle. While you may not be styling your hair throughout the day, pollution, air conditioning/central heating, wind and UV rays.
Turn off your blow-dryer when your hair is ‘just dry’. Overheating and drying bleached hair further reduces moisture and elasticity.

Use a smoothing product to help close and smooth your hair cuticle. This will help reduce moisture evaporation and also give your hair a glossier and healthier appearance.

STEPS IN FUE AND ITS ADVANTAGES

FUE  ( follicular unit extraction ) is a minimally invasive technique of hair transplantation in which patients do not need a lot of time to recover themselves and have excellent results. Each case is individually evaluated in medical visits and the medical and/or surgical treatment will be suggested depending on balding scale. At COSMOWORLDCLINICS every effort is made to provide you with the best possible and realistic results considering each and every aspect.

There are few steps associated with this technique that a person has to undergo :-
  • Patient arrives at medical centre.
  • Taking photographs
  • Drawing of donor and recipient sites
  • Follicular unit extraction from donor site
  • Preparation of follicular unit
  • Preservation of follicular unit
  • Lunch Break
  • Follicular unit implantation
  • General instructions to be given to the patient after the procedure is done
ADVANTAGES OF FUE METHOD

It does not leave a linear scar.

Short recovery time ensures return to daily activities without much daily.

This technique is ideal for people who have a tight scalp or have healed poorly from    conventional strip harvesting.

It is less invasive than other procedures.

 No cuts, no sutures.

Minimal chances of any external infection due to non-invasiveness of the procedure.

Due to transection of a number of grafts, large numbers of grafts need to be harvested.

This requires shaving of the entire donor area.

Most reliable and safe method.

Does drinking water really help in hair growth ???

Image result for WATER FOR HAIRS

Lack of water causes Dehydration, but this dehydration has a direct impact on hair growth. It is a common fact that our body is usually composed of 60-80% water. When it does not receive the adequate amount of water in order to maintain cell health and reproduction, it becomes dehydrated which directly impacts hair growth as well.

On daily basis, human body tends to lose 2 to 3 quarts of water approximately, in many ways like sweat and other water removal processes. Our skin too has a high concentration of water which tends to evaporate constantly in tiny air-borne droplet affecting the balance of water in our body.
If the roots of hair are deficient in required water levels, the tresses of hair will eventually become brittle, dry, rough and it is possible that they may stop growing at your genetic rate. Roots of hair are the only means by which water is supplied from body to hair. Roots soak up the water and provide hydration to the hair, which automatically and internally boosts up hair growth
1. Water is the root source of energy for each and every cell of our body. It includes those cells too, that are responsible for hair growth and its health.
2. Water nurtures cells and provides them required hair vitamins.
3. It generates magnetic and electrical energy which is considered as a core power to sustain life.
4. The roots of the hair and our scalp have many energy-sensitive and photosensitive nerve endings. Water activates all these nerve endings and other sensors in our skin and scalp that enhances the natural vitality of hair roots.
5. Drinking enough water can also help you get rid of dandruff and hair thinning problem.

Drink water for Healthy HairWater helps the body to process and flush out toxins faster, which makes it a quick and easy natural method that will make your hair grow a lot faster. If you drink about 8 cups of water a day, not only will your body feel better, but your hair will get stronger.

Thinning of hairs due to tight ponytails!!!

There are many causes of hair loss including medications, thyroid disease, iron deficiency, even having a baby. Most of these causes result in temporary hair loss — the hair eventually grows back. Some types of hair loss, however, are permanent; this is called scarring or cicatrical alopecia. A common scarring hair loss in women is traction alopecia.

Traction alopecia occurs when hair is pulled too tightly for long periods of time. It occurs often in girls and women who braid their hair, but can also be seen in women who pull their hair back tightly in a pony-tail or a bun. Over months and years the hair loss becomes permanent, and cannot regrow. It can be seen in men, but is more common in women. It can also affect children as well as in adults.

In traction alopecia the worst hair loss is in areas where the hair is pulled the tightest, usually the forehead and temples. It can be subtle at first, but becomes apparent over years as the hair line recedes from ear to ear starting farther and farther back on the head.

The hair is lost because the tension from pulling damages the hair follicles beneath the skin. Each follicle is in an active state for years before it takes a short rest, sheds the hair, then starts all over again. Over time, pulling the follicle damages it and eventually the damaged follicle can no longer make hair. Because you cannot develop new follicles, as more and more follicles are damaged, more and more permanent hair loss results.

If you have hair loss, then you should seek an expert advice. He or she can examine your scalp and can often prescribe medications, perform hair transplant surgery, or make suggestions on changing your hairstyle that can save your hair.

Is switching to sulphate free shampoo a better option ???

Some people have scalps that are sensitive to the effects of sulphate and often experience scalp itchiness and inflammation as  a result, shampoos that contain sulphate also causes pigmentation from hair dye to fade away much faster. Sulphate plays a role in significantly weakening the hair follicles and hair strands when used for a prolonged period of time and makes the hair brittle and prone to breakage.

There are many benefits of using sulphate free shampoo for your hairs:-

1.REDUCES THE CHANCES OF DEVELOPING IRRITATION OR INFLAMMATION WITHIN SCALP.

2.INCREASES MOISTURE RETENTION WITHIN THE HAIR.

3.IMPROVES AND RETAINS THE HAIR'S NATURAL OILS.

4. RETAINS HAIR COLOR IN DYED HAIR FOR LONGER PERIODS OF TIME.

5. PREVENT THE SCALP FROM ABSORBING HARMFUL CHEMICALS.

Sulphate free shampoo benefits those with sensitive scalps, dyed hair and a distinct sensitivity to sulphate and similar substances. So, if you suspect your hair is not responding well to regular shampoo, then you can switch to sulphate free shampoos.

SCALP FOLLICULITIS

Folliculitis means an inflammation or infection of the hair follicles of the skin. Most of the skin is covered with tiny hairs which grow out of hair follicles. In folliculitis, many hair follicles in one area of the skin are affected.

Scalp folliculitis hair loss is usually caused by an infection of the scalp, but do you know how to recognize it and treat it to prevent unhealthy scalp and hair loss?
Scalp folliculitis hair loss is usually caused by an infection of the scalp, accompanied by itching or soreness. Folliculitis is often temporary but more severe cases can be difficult to treat and can cause damage to hair and scalp that leave bald patches.
How does affected area look like ?
The affected hair follicles swell into small pus-filled pimples. Each individual pimple looks like a small, rounded, yellow-red spot. Most cases of folliculitis are due to an infection with a germ (bacterium) called staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) . This bacterium is carried harmlessly in the noses of many people, without causing any problems. Occasionally, other germs (bacteria) are the cause of folliculitis.
Folliculitis usually occurs at sites where hair follicles are damaged by friction or shaving, or where there is blockage of the follicle. Excessive sweating due to overactivity of the sweat glands can be another cause. Sometimes, using a steroid cream on the face can trigger a bout of folliculitis. The most common site affected is the beard area of men. Other common sites for folliculitis are the arms, legs, armpits and buttocks.
Treatment available
Wherever the folliculitis occurs, the treatment priniciple is broadly the same. General measures involve avoiding things that aggravate the condition. It is important to shave in the direction of hair growth. Sometimes it is worth taking a break from shaving for a few days, to let the folliculitis settle down by itself. Tight clothing over the affected area, particularly if it makes you sweat, will not help either. Keeping cool and keeping folliculitis exposed to the fresh air will also help. If you have folliculitis you should not share towels, flannels or razo.
@cosmoworldclinics offers different therapies associated with hair loss treatments, which effectively works on patients facing hair loss.

UNCOMBABLE HAIR SYNDROME

Uncombable hair syndrome  is a rare disorder of the hair shaft of the scalp. It is usually characterized by silvery-blond or straw-colored hair that is disorderly; stands out from the scalp; and cannot be combed flat. It may first become apparent from 3 months of age to 12 years of age. The syndrome has been found to be caused by mutations in the genes . These  genes code for proteins that are involved in hair shaft formation. The syndrome appears to be inherited in an autosomal recessive  fashion

Signs and symptoms of uncombable hair syndrome

Uncombable hair syndrome may first become apparent any time between the ages of 3 months and 12 years. It only affects the scalp hair. The quantity of hair remains normal, but the hair often grows slowly.Over time the hair becomes progressively silvery-blond or straw-colored; dry and disordered (standing out and growing in different directions); and unmanageable to comb flat. In some cases, constant efforts to groom the hair lead to breakage, but increased fragility is not a constant feature of the condition. In later childhood, there is usually a considerable amount of spontaneous improvement.

Uncombable hair syndrome diagnosis

A diagnosis of uncombable hair syndrome  is made by observing the characteristic symptoms of the condition, as well observing the hair shaft under a special microscope. When the individual hair strands are viewed under a microscope, the hair is either triangular or kidney-shaped on cross section, and has a canal-like longitudinal groove along one or two faces.

 Uncombable hair syndrome be treatment

There is no definitive treatment for uncombable hair syndrome, but the condition usually improves or resolves on its own with the onset of puberty. Gentle hair care is generally recommended using conditioners and soft brushes, along with avoiding harsh hair treatments such as permanent waves (perms); chemical relaxants; or excessive brushing and blow drying.Another strategy that has been suggested to improve the appearance of the hair is the use of biotin supplements.

Post-opp Instructions for Hair Transplant surgery

If you’ve gone through this hair transplant procedure, here are some post-care tips you need to remember...

Follow washing instructions.....
After an FUE hair transplant procedure, you are taught how to wash your hair during the next few days properly.
you will be using baby shampoo that you need to use during the first two weeks. It is especially important to follow these hair-care instructions and use the right products to prevent any post-treatment issues.
Follow the right sleeping position.
In the next few days following the hair restoration process, you will experience a bit of swelling in some areas.
Do not touch the transplanted hair.
It is often tempting to touch the transplanted hair, especially at sleeping time. Avoid touching it, especially in the swollen areas. It is advised that you don’t rub the areas where there is transplanted hair.
Avoid doing exercise or playing sports.
You can exercise after a hair transplant procedure, but try to avoid any exerting physical activities during the first two week.
Wait for few weeks before getting a haircut.
Patients should also wait at least 30 days or more before getting their hair colored or permed. For best results, you can ask your doctor if it’s okay to get a hair treatment after the hair transplant surgery
