Essential vitamins and minerals for hair growth

ESSENTIAL VITAMINS

For healthy hair growth, it is necessary to have enough of vitamin C, B vitamins such as Biotin (also known as Vitamin B7 or Vitamin H) and Niacin (Vitamin B3). Foods such as sweet red peppers, guavas and dark green leafy kale contain very high amounts of Vitamin C. Foods such as the dark leafy green Swiss chard, carrots, and nuts including almonds and walnuts, are all naturally high in Vitamin B7. Niacin (Vitamin B3) is found in fish such as tuna and salmon, poultry (chicken and turkey), roasted peanuts and mushrooms. All of these vitamins – Vitamin C, Vitamin B7 (Biotin) and Vitamin B3 (Niacin) have been proven to help promote healthy hair growth and reduce hair loss.

ESSENTIAL MINERALS

Iron and Zinc are two minerals that promote healthy hair growth. Iron-rich foods are lean meats, spinach, chicken and beans or lentils. Iron is an essential mineral that has several important roles in the body including helping to make red blood cells, which carry oxygen around the body to all the cells. Hair loss can be one of the visible symptoms of anemia, or Iron deficiency. But even if you are not anemic, you may have low Iron levels that are affecting your health and may result in thinning hair. Seek medical advice if you believe you have low Iron levels. Foods naturally rich in Zinc include seafood, beef and lamb, wheat germ (toasted), spinach and pumpkin seeds. A diet rich in the minerals Iron and Zinc will help nourish hair from the inside out. If you do not have enough of the minerals in your diet to promote hair growth, consider taking dietary supplements for hair growth, including Iron, Zinc, Biotin, Niacin, Vitamin C and an exclusive marine complex derived from fish proteins.

How does sleep affect your hairs ??

Sleep is the body’s natural restoration period, the time when it rejuvenates and repairs itself. When this suffers, our hair can too. Without enough shut-eye, our tresses simply won’t grow as thick or as fast, and they will often lose their shine and bounce. sleep deprivation is also a form of stress.A lack of sleep has been shown to affect the body’s immune function, hormone secretion, physical and mental stamina. Hair is very sensitive to changes within the body, and hair loss is nearly always the consequence of an internal disturbance.Improper sleep leads to stress  and it can indeed cause hair loss. In those susceptible to male pattern baldness or female pattern hair loss, stress can instigate, accelerate and aggravate the problem. So, it's better to have sound sleep and also treat your tresses to a silk or satin pillowcase, besides feeling delightfully soft, the smooth surface creates less friction so it’s easier on your locks when you toss and turn. This can help prevent hair loss and breakage overnight.

ALL ABOUT RECEDING HAIRLINE !!!

Receding hairline is a type of progressive hair loss mainly experienced by men and some women where your hairline will begin to thin commonly on either sides of your forehead before you get a bald patch on top of your head. It is one of the classes of hair loss in men, a condition popularly known as androgenic alopecia or male pattern baldness. It is characterized by a widow's peak where your front forehead forms a V shape pattern.

Although the problem is common in older men (above 25 years of age), receding hairline can be seen in younger people including teenagers. If your hair line is receding at young age, it might be a pre-disposition to hair loss, which is caused by genetics or associated with a certain autoimmune response. Some signs of hair loss can be noticed, you will have hair loss above your temples that often form a letter M shape where the middle and side hairs remain while you lose lateral hairs on your forehead. This is the initial stage of receding hairline. With time, you will begin having hair loss on top of your head but this might depend on the causes of a receding hairline.

To some people, they need to tilt their head to be able to see their hairlines and in some extreme cases, it might form a horseshoe shape where your scalp center remains bare with only hair on the back and sides of your head. You will therefore notice pronounced and high temples when your hairline is receding.

Finally, when you are suffering from this condition, you will notice more hair collecting on your water tub, each time you wash your head. More hair can also be seen on your comb and hair brush. On average, people should lose up to 100 strands of hair every day during brushing, combing, etc. and this is considered normal.

What can be the causes ??

Genes – Inherited Factors

Excessive and Continued Production of Dihydrotestosterone (DHT)

Age

Environmental Factors – Stress

Medications and Chemotherapy

Poor Eating Habits

    Ideal age for Hair Transplant????

If  you are going bald and thinking about getting your hair transplanted lately?  Here is what you need to know about the age limit for hair transplant. Firstly you should consider some points before opting for it.

People opt for a hair transplantation as a solution to their hair loss, but reality is that hair transplantation is a preventive measure for the balding condition that one experiences.

Definitely, it is one of the most common cosmetic problem but you should not start thinking about a hair transplantation without the advise of a doctor. Some hair loss is common and we all lose at least 100 strands of hair everyday until we develop a matured hair line. So you must wait patiently until you see some severe balding.

Hair transplantation is not gender specific!!! Both males and females can opt for it.

Hair transplantation is a clinical process that is extremely different from wearing a wig.

Also, if you are undergoing patterned hair baldness, age is not the factor for deciding the amount of hair that needs to be transplanted. However, if the patient is experiencing an early hair loss stage, doctor’s opinion at this stage is better for studying the hair growth and hair fall pattern that is going to happen in the future.

You definitely need an expert advise before deciding anything.

Age is not the only factor for hair transplant, there are some considerations which should be taken into account.

    • A person who is loosing his or her hairs due to pattern baldness for more than 5 years.
    • People who have lost hair due to any trauma or an injury.
    • People who have undergone any kind of cosmetic treatment .
    • People who have been experiencing baldness since many years.
If any one of these criteria is present in a male of 23 years or a man as old as 65  yrs or more, one can opt for this procedure.

    TUMESCENCE TECHNIQUE IN HAIR TRANSPLANT

Tumescence in surgical hair restoration is a state of temporary swelling and fattening of the skin created by injections of anesthetic fluid and epinephrine into the fat layer of the scalp. The fluid being injected therefore, has been coined "Tumescent Anesthesia".
Tumescence minimizes blood loss and can help the anesthesia last longer. It also makes it easier for doctors to see between the follicles and harvest the donor strip without cutting hair follicles by making expanding the tissue and making the skin firm. It also helps the doctor avoid damaging deep seated blood vessels.
The aim of this technique is to distribute very dilute solutions of local anesthetic and vasoconstrictor evenly throughout the donor and recipient sites. At the donor area this results in a bloodless, firm cutting surface and for the recipient site, the dermis is thickened so that one is less likely to strike the larger blood vessels .
Operative blood loss may be greatly reduced with this technique with beneficial effects for patient and surgeon. The operation proceeds much more smoothly without the operative site obscured by blood and recently inserted rafts continually "popping". For the patient there is the advantage of less total blood-loss and decreased postoperative swelling and bruising around the forehead and eyelids.

PREDICTING PERMANENT SAFE DONOR AREA FOR HAIR TRANSPLANT

The   most crucial factor in hair transplantation for any kind of baldness is the efficient utilization of the donor-recipient ratio. Another factor is the assessment and management of the donor area, and the designing and planning of the recipient area by taking long -term progress into consideration.

Hair transplantation has drawn more attention among patients these days because of the recent advances in surgical techniques. A safe donor area is an area that is expected to be permanently covered with hair for a lifetime and therefore provide permanent coverage when transplanted to the recipient area. However, there is no known factor that scientifically predicts the rate of progression of alopecia or indicates a permanently safe donor area

Any kind of the hair transplant procedure involves performance between two sites :
    DONOR SITES and RECIPIENT SITES

DONOR SITE- Donor site is usually a scalp from where the hair grafts are harvested to conduct the procedure. Attention to this region is highly crucial particularly when the follicles are extracted from the back side of scalp. In FUE , individual hair grafts are extracted from the scalp, and tiny scars are made that are almost unnoticeable.

RECIPIENT SITE - Recipient area is basically a bald region of scalp that needs hair restoration. A set of instruments is used to create the recipient area. The development of recipient site needs an extreme preparation such as slits to get a complete control on the angle and development of restored hair. It gives a final look to the transplanted hairs.

Post-opp Instructions for Hair Transplant surgery

If you’ve gone through this hair transplant procedure, here are some post-care tips you need to remember...

    Follow washing instructions.....
After an FUE hair transplant procedure, you are taught how to wash your hair during the next few days properly.
you will be using baby shampoo that you need to use during the first two weeks. It is especially important to follow these hair-care instructions and use the right products to prevent any post-treatment issues.
    Follow the right sleeping position.
In the next few days following the hair restoration process, you will experience a bit of swelling in some areas.
Do not touch the transplanted hair.
It is often tempting to touch the transplanted hair, especially at sleeping time. Avoid touching it, especially in the swollen areas. It is advised that you don’t rub the areas where there is transplanted hair.
Avoid doing exercise or playing sports.
You can exercise after a hair transplant procedure, but try to avoid any exerting physical activities during the first two week.
Wait for few weeks before getting a haircut.
Patients should also wait at least 30 days or more before getting their hair colored or permed. For best results, you can ask your doctor if it’s okay to get a hair treatment after the hair transplant surgery
