Why Flax Seeds are Good for your Hair

3 Reasons why Flax seeds are good for your hair..

1-Flax seeds contain essential vitamins for hair

Flax seeds are full of essential vitamins and minerals which provide nourishment to the hair follicles and encourage stronger and healthier new growth. A daily dose of flax seeds will keep you and your hair beautiful.

2-Flax seeds are high in Omega-3 fatty acids

Omega-3 fatty acids help you avoid a dry, scaly scalp, and nourish your hair. It also increases the hair elasticity – which means less breakage. Plus it can help reduce dandruff, eczema, and other skin conditions.

3-Flax seeds are a good source of fiber

Flax seeds are a great source of fiber – both the soluble and insoluble types. Eating flax seeds will keep your gut in good health, and facilitate the absorption of vital nutrients. And health gut equals a healthy body and of course healthy hair.

How to Eat Flax seeds?

*Always eat flax seeds after dry roasting them in a pan or oven before eating. This way they are easy to chew and plus roasting eliminates anti-nutrients in the seeds which can block the absorption of other mineral.
*Add in your salads or make chutney, which you can add to your sandwiches or stuffed bread (parathas), etc.
*You can also grind the roasted flax seeds, and use them in your diet.
Since flax seeds are slimy and sticky, make sure to take them with plenty of water or other liquids to increase their mobility in your gut.

ANATOMY OF HAIR FOLLICLE

                        ANATOMY OF HAIR FOLLICLE

Hair Structure

A hair can be defined as a slender, thread-like outgrowth from a follicle in the skin. The hair are present all over the body, except for the sole, palm, lips. Hair is composed of structural protein called keratin. This is the same kind of protein that makes up the nails and the outer layer of skin .

Hair comprises of three morphological regions - the cuticle, medulla, and cortex
  • An innermost layer or medulla which is only present in large thick hairs.
  • The middle layer known as the cortex. The cortex provides strength, color and texture of the hair.
  • The outermost layer is known as the cuticle. The cuticle is thin and colorless. It serves as a protector of the cortex.
Structure of the hair root
Hair root lies below the skin, which is enclosed within a follicle. At the base of hair follicle is the dermal papilla. The dermal papilla is fed by the blood vessels which carries nourishment to produce new hair. The dermal papilla is very important for the growth of the hair as it contains receptors for male hormones and androgens. The presence of these receptors is responsible for the androgenic alopecia

HAIR GROWTH CYCLE .....HOW HAIR WORKS ???

HAIR GROWTH CYCLE .....HOW HAIR WORKS ???

It is very important to understand the hair growth cycle in order to recognize and understand many of the problems,  you can encounter with your hair. The hair growth cycle is ongoing and on average, 90% of your hair is in resting phase while the other 10% is either growing or shedding. Balding occurs when the hair sheds , and no hair grows to replace it. The hair growth cycle consists of three distinct stages:-
ANAGEN PHASE ,  CATAGEN PHASE , TELOGEN PHASE

ANAGEN PHASE - The hair growth cycle begins with the anagen or growth phase . During this phase cells in the root of  the hair divide to add to the hair shaft . Depending upon your genetics , the growth phase can last anywhere from 2 to 6 yrs. As the anagen phase comes to an end an unknown signal tells the hair to enter the next stage.

CATAGEN PHASE -  This stage follows the anagen phase and  is made up of a 2-3 week transitional period in which the hair is no longer growing .During this stage, club hair is formed .A club hair occurs when the section of the hair follicle attaches to the hair shaft , cutting the follicle off from its blood supply and the cells that produce new hair. This club hair leads to the next stage of hair growth and shedding cycle.

TELOGEN PHASE - Lastly, your hair enters the telogen phase , a resting phase when your hair is released and falls out. The follicle then remains inactive for 3 months and the whole process is repeated . Each hair follicle is independent and goes through the growth cycle at different times, otherwise all your hair would fall out at once. Instead you only shed a certain number of hairs a day.

STANDARD GUIDELINES OF CARE -HAIR TRANSPLANTATION

                    STANDARD GUIDELINES OF CARE

                           HAIR TRANSPLANTATION

Hair Transplantation is a surgical method of hair restoration. While undergoing transplant surgery , some of the points need to be taken into the consideration. These are the some of the basic steps:-

1. PHYSICIAN QUALIFICATION- The physician performing hair transplantation should have completed post graduation training. He should obtain specific hair transplantation training under the supervision of an appropriately trained and experienced hair transplant surgeon. In addition to the surgical technique, training should include instruction in local anesthesia and emergency care.

2. FACILITY - Hair transplantation can be performed safely in an outpatient day case . The day case theater should be equipped with facilities for monitoring and handling emergencies.

3. PREOPERATIVE COUNSELING AND INFORMED CONSENT- Detailed consent form listing details about the procedure and possible complications should be signed by the patient.Patient should be provided with adequate opportunity to seek information through brochures and personal discussions. Need for concomitant medical therapy should be emphasized. Patients should understand that proper hair growth can be expected within 9 - 12 months. Preoperative laboratory studies should be conducted well.

4. PATIENT SELECTION- Hair transplantation can be performed in any person with pattern hair loss, with good donor area , in good general health and reasonable expectations. Caution should be exercised in , very young patients whose early alopecia is still evolving, patients with unrealistic expectations and patients with significant health problems.

5. MEDICAL THERAPY- Most of the patients will need concurrent medical treatment since the process of pattern hair loss is progressive and may affect the remaining hairs.

6. MANPOWER- Hair transplantation is a team effort. Particularly , performing large sessions, needs a well trained team of trained assistants.

7. ANESTHESIA- 2% lignocaine with adrenaline is generally used for anesthesia , tumescent technique is preferred.

8. DENSITY- Minimum density of 30-35 units per sq cm is recommended. Results depend on donor characteristics, technique used and individual skills of the surgeon.

.

Suffering from an itchy scalp is no fun..
Itchy scalp can be caused due to a number of reasons. Apart from being an irritant, it can also be a cause for embarrassment. These reasons range from dandruff and ringworm to bacterial infections. Many of these conditions result in hair loss and skin rashes.

5 Ways to bid goodbye to an itchy scalp:
  •  Medicated shampoos: Sometimes certain hair care products can result in an itchy scalp. A medicated shampoo which is mild and gentle on the scalp and can result in relieving
  • Sufficient hydration and good nutrition: Doctors suggest that regular drinking of water and adequate intake of vitamins and proteins can help reduce scalp itchiness. An itchy scalp is the result of a dry skin. Water helps the body stay hydrated.
  • Anti-lice shampoos: Lice are also sometimes the reason for an itchy scalp. Certain shampoos work well in eliminating lice if used as directed.
  • Steroid creams: Steroid creams and medicated shampoos offer a way out.
  •  Anti-dandruff shampoos: Dandruff on the scalp may also be caused due to regular or irregular washing, or both. Regular use of Anti-dandruff shampoos can help deal with itchy scalps.
  • Right nutrition: Lack of nutrition can also be a major reason. A healthy balanced diet can go a long way in maintaining a healthy scalp.

ENCOURAGE NATURAL HAIR GROWTH

ENCOURAGE NATURAL HAIR GROWTH

Here are six ways to help in the hair growth process:

Hair Growth Vitamins

  1. Less Stress: Don’t force your hair to do double duty while it’s trying to grow. Take some time off from your blow drying, straightening, and curling routine to reduce split ends, dryness, and other damage. That doesn’t mean you should just pull it back. Tight ponytails and buns are another stress factor which can hinder hair growth.
  2. Product Switch: Many conventional hair products contain petroleum-derived silicone. You might think you’re simply controlling frizz, but these chemicals are culprits which coat the hair shaft, seal out moisture, and clog follicles.
  3. Skip Shampoo: Many men and women make the mistake of washing their hair too frequently. Instead, wait at least a day or two between washes so your scalp has a chance to produce natural oils which make for healthier hair.
  4. Trim it Up: Every two or three months, have about a quarter of an inch taken off your mane. While it might feel like backtracking, keeping your ends healthy will improve the overall health of your hair and even promote additional growth.
  5. Eat Right: Your hair needs protein, vitamins, and plenty of water to grow long and strong! Eating well is absolutely imperative when it comes to hair, which is a natural indicator of your general health. Eating protein-rich foods like fish will also give you a dose of biotin, vitamin B, vitamin C, and folic acid.
  6. Deep Condition: Every week, choose a conditioning treatment.Apply and leave for 15-30 minutes, giving your hair time to absorb that synergy of active, all-natural nutrients, botanicals, and nutraceuticals key to a revitalized hair follicle and a strong, healthy head of hair.
With these six steps, you’ll have your long, shining hair back in no time. Just make sure to eat right and go easy on your scalp by following our low-maintenance advice. There’s no reason your hair should look anything but its absolute glowing best.

SIDE - EFFECTS OF HAIR DYEING

SIDE - EFFECTS OF HAIR DYEING

Image result for effects of chemicals and colours on hair

Hair coloring is the practice of changing the hair color. The main reasons for this are Cosmetic  to cover gray hair, to change to a color regarded as more fashionable or desirable.Hair coloring can be done professionally by a hairdresser or independently at home.

SOME OF THE SIDE EFFECTS OF HAIR DYEING :-

  • Poor quality - If the quality of the dye is poor it will have adverse effect on the hair of the person. Many people don't like to invest much and do not opt for good quality hair dyes or colors. However it is not essential that the hair color that is the most expensive will not have any side effect on your hair. There are other factors also that matter and other reasons of bad effects of hair coloring.
  • Application not done properly- Nowadays youngsters are going after highlighting their hair. This has very bad impact on the health of the hairs. However, applying it properly and with proper precautions can save your hair to a great extent. The looks also get affected if highlighting is not done properly.
  • Over treating - Over treating happens when the color or the dye is left on hair for longer period of time. Even if a relaxer or perm is left for longer time on the hair for more than it should be left, it affects the hair badly.
  • Under treating - Coloring of hair takes time and the color has to be left applied on hair for some time period. If the color is not allowed to set and it is removed or washed before time, it will not be able to cover gray hair. If the intention is to highlight your hair, it will give faded results and you will not get the outcome that you wished.
  • Reactions due to allergy - Hair color causes allergy to many people. This is why every hair color company advises to take a patch test before applying the color to your hair.
  • Bad effects of chemicals - Usually the hair color that you will buy in the retail shop contains chemicals and since there are varieties of chemical used they have their effects on your hair. The chemicals may have adverse effects on your hair so it is essential that you find out the whereabouts of the dye you are using and then take the patch test so that you know whether it is safe for you or not.

Sulphates on Hair: Effects and Tip

Image may contain: 1 person , close-up and text
Sulphates on Hair: Effects and Tip

What are Sulpahtes ?
One of the most common ingredients used in most shampoos are sulfates. Sulfates are detergents used to make the shampoo lather. They're are inexpensive to use in shampoos, which explains why more than 90% of shampoos contain them.

Effects of Sulfates on Your Hair and Scalp
There are many negative effects that sulfates can cause to your hair shaft, hair follicles, and your scalp. Some of these include:
Dry hair and scalp. Sulfates dissolve all of the natural oils on your scalp, thus leaving your hair and scalp dryer than normal.
Scalp irritations. Sulfates have the potential to worsen dandruff and eczema. In turn they also leave your scalp feeling tight and itchy.
Fading hair colour. If you colour your hair, the aggressive cleansing that sulfates gives you will strip your hair of that colour, leaving you with dull, faded locks.
Hair loss. Sulfates corrode and damage your hair follicles, which leads to hair loss. This is especially true if you don't properly rinse shampoo out of your hair.

Switching to a Sulfate-Free Shampoo

When switching from your regular shampoo to a sulfate-free shampoo, there may be a few minor things that you will need to get used to. Even if you struggle with these changes, you should always keep in mind that switching to a sulfate-free shampoo is the beginning to having a healthier scalp and healthier hair. The struggle will be worth it.
1. No lather. The first thing that you are going to notice about sulfate-free shampoos is that they do not lather. This is a problem for many people because they do not feel that their hair is being properly cleansed. However, you must remember that the only reason that other shampoos lather so much is due to the sulfates that are contained in them. If you are going to avoid sulfates, you must accept the fact that your sulfate-free shampoo is not going to lather like your old shampoo did.
Some tips for getting the most lather out of your sulfate-free shampoo:
Make sure your hair is thoroughly saturated with water before applying the shampoo to your hair.
Wash your hair twice! The first shampoo will remove the dirt and oil from your hair, making it easier for your shampoo to lather during the second wash. Washing your hair twice with sulfate-free shampoo is still less damaging than washing your hair once with sulfates.
2. Oily Hair. You may also notice that after switching over to your new, sulfate-free shampoo that your hair tends to feel oily a lot faster than it used to. Now that you are not stripping your hair of all of its natural oils, some people may find that their hair feels like its becoming oily quickly. Although nothing can moisturize your hair as well as your hair's natural oils, this can be a problem for some people, especially if they don't like to wash their hair as often as others do.
All in all, protecting your hair from the potential damage that sulfates can cause is well worth adapting to the changes that come along with using a sulfate-free shampoo!

DRUGS AND MEDICATIONS INDUCED HAIRLOSS

DRUGS AND MEDICATIONS INDUCED HAIRLOSS

Alopecia  from  drugs  is  usually  considered   as  a  reversible  diffuse  non  scarring  hairloss that  occurs  within  days  to  weeks  of  starting  a  new  medication  or  changing  the  dose. In other  terms  we  can  say  that  medication  is  designed  to treat various  health  conditions but sometimes  they  can  have  unwanted  effects  contributing  to  changes  in  hair color or texture  or  even hair loss. Medicines  basically  cause  hair  loss by  interfering  with  the  normal  cycle  of  hair  growth  which  are  Anagen phase,  Catagen  and  Telogen  phase.

The  development  of  hairloss  and  the  severity  depends  both  on  the  drug  and  on individual   predisposition.  The  severity  of  medication - induced  hairloss  depends  on  the  type  of  medication  and  dosage  as  well  as  your  sensitivity  to  that  medicine.  Medications  can  lead  to  2  types  of  hairloss:-

  • TELOGEN  EFFLUVIUM-  is  the  most  common  form  of  medication  induced  hairloss   which  usually  appears  within  2 to 4  months  after  taking  the  medication. This  condition  cause  the  hair  follicles  to  go  into  their  resting  phase  and  fall  out  too  early.
  • ANAGEN  EFFLUVIUM- is  the  hairloss  that  occurs  during  the  anagen  phase  of the hair cycle,  when  the  hairs  are  actively  growing,  it  prevents  the  matrix  cells  which  produce  new  hairs,  from  dividing  normally . This  type  occurs  usually  within  a  few  days  to  weeks  after  taking  the  medication. It  is  commonly  seen  in  people  taking   chemotherapy  medications  and  is  often  severe.
Medications  causing  hairloss  can  be  categorised  under:-

  1. Acne  Medications
  2. Antibiotic  and  Antifungal
  3. Chemotherapy Medications
  4. Cholesterol  lowering  medications
  5. Antihypertensives
  6. Anticonvulsants
  7. Steroid's
  8. Mood Stablizer's
  9. Thyroid Medication.

How can be Treated?

It is important to review any medications you take and discuss their potential side effects with your doctor. when hair loss occurs from a medication you are taking, there is a good chance that the hair will grow back on its own after you stop taking it. If stopping the medication does not help you grow back your hair then you need to be treated with a medication that stops hair loss and can stimulate new hair growth.

Damaged Hair: How to Prevent It. !!

beautiful young woman screaming
Have a look at the following seven deadly sins of hair care – and avoid them at all costs!
1. Rubbing wet hair dry
Your hair is most fragile when it’s wet, so by rubbing it dry (which most of us tend to do) you’re causing more damage to your hair than necessary. Instead, why not dry squeezing the remaining water out and dabbing it with a dry towel. Once it’s dry you can then start brushing it out to avoid irreparable damage to your hair strands.
2. Applying heat often
Ladies love using our extremely expensive flat irons and volumizing hair dryers, and understandably so. However, the heat from a flat iron can cause damage to your hair even at lower temperatures–especially if your hair is still damp, have been bleached, dyed, or even permed. You may not notice it straight away, but your hair may look a little bit lifeless and dull after a while – perhaps even show some signs of singeing.
3. Washing everyday
As with your skin, your hair needs natural oils. Thus, by washing it daily, you’re stripping your hair of those essential oils used to keep your hair smooth and shiny. This then creates a typical dryness, perhaps even hair fall that you’d want to avoid at all costs.
4. Never cleaning your brushes
You’d be surprised at the amount of critters and microscopic germs you’ll find when looking at your brushes from an extreme close-up angle. However, most of us tend to forget about cleaning those while we’re busy making sure we shampoo our heads regularly. Make sure you wash between the bristles.
5. Pulling hair too tight
You may be all too familiar with the dreaded receding hairline if you’ve been pulling your hair tight into a ponytail. Don’t panic! It takes a while for the effects to show, but it’s the easiest way to cause breakage and hair loss. So whatever you do, don’t forget to release some of that tension on top of your head. Not only will you experience fewer headaches caused by tightness, but your hair will last longer as the years pass.
6. Adding too many chemicals
We’ve all been there – changing our minds when it comes to wanting to be a brunette or a blonde, or even bleaching. These types of chemicals change the inner structure of the hair – making your hair more susceptible to damage.
7. Brushing your hair too often
.It’s a good idea to brush your hair once or twice a day, but that’s where it should stop. Over-brushing will cause your hair to fall out quicker, due to the pulling action, and leave you with added tangles if you’re using a cheap brush.
